This publication, by Linda Darling Hammond, Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education at Stanford University, was written at the request of and with the input of participants in the Albert Shanker Institute's Good Schools seminars. It presents a comprehensive view on how to improve teacher preparation, make entry into the profession an educational and developmental experience, how to upgrade career and professional development, and what kind of models for evaluation make sense given the quailty and integrity of current methods for doing that, including value added techniques.
